Barry M. Blackard

Barry M. Blackard is a death penalty certified criminal trial lawyer and former felony public defender with a track record of trial wins.  Selected by the National Trial Lawyers Association as one of the Top 100 Criminal Trial Lawyers and designated as one of the Top 10 Criminal Defense Attorneys in the entire country by The National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys, Inc., he focuses on Criminal Defense, with an emphasis on serious felonies.  His extensive criminal trial experience includes cases involving murder, armed robbery, burglary, drug dealing and possession, DUI/OMVWI, domestic battery, sex crimes, rape, child molesting, child pornography, forgery, fraud, and theft.

Born in Evansville, Indiana Barry Blackard was raised in Columbus, Ohio but later returned to Southern Indiana.

A graduate of Evansvile Central High School, he also earned a bachelor of science from Indiana University-Bloomington and received his law degree from John Marshall School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.  During law school, Mr. Blackard clerked for then-Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Judge, the Honorable Carl A. Heldt.  Following his work with Judge Heldt, Mr. Blackard became a Felony Deputy Public Defender in the Vanderburgh County Public Defender Agency, where he focused on major felony criminal defense for over 6 years appearing in over 1000 felony matters.

 

In December of 2013, Mr. Blackard left the Public Defender Agency to become the Founder and Managing Member of Blackard & Brinkmeyer LLC.

​​Dennis L. Brinkmeyer
Dennis Brinkmeyer has nearly 40 years of experience focusing on criminal law.  He handles a broad range of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases with comprehensive trial knowledge at the state and federal level.
​

Dennis is a veteran from the Vietnam era United States Army in Europe and a lifelong resident of Evansville, Indiana.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Evansville in 1969 and his law degree from the University of Louisville, in Kentucky, in 1974.  He is admitted to practice before the Indiana Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Federal District Court.

 

Dennis has served as a Vanderburgh County Public Defender and a Vanderburgh County Attorney.  He is a member of the Evansville Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  Dennis was also recognized as a member of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in the State of Indiana by the National Trial Lawyers.

 

Dennis was in private practice until joining with Barry Blackard in December, 2013, to form Blackard & Brinkmeyer.
